100 Coats for the Homeless: Debt Settlement Company Becomes Drop-Off Point for Coat Drive
Columbia, MD – january 31, 2008 –Debt settlement company collects coats for homeless.
Debt Shield, a Maryland-based debt settlement company, is partnering with Nexus Society, a DC-based networking organization, to collect coats from its employees and the public between February 1 and February 15 as part of an area-wide campaign to provide at least 100 coats for the area's homeless population.
Michelle Scott, a Client Advocate Supervisor at Debt Shield, is coordinating the donations through Nexus Society and the Ebenezer's Homeless Ministry. When Scott heard about the coat drive, she suggested to her supervisor that Debt Shield become a drop-off point.
"I can feel the intense cold when I rush between my home, car and office, so I can't imagine what it must be like for people without shelter or coats to keep them warm," Scott said. "I knew we were collecting donations for different causes, and my supervisor immediately signed on when I suggested we participate in the coat drive."
The coat drive is the latest in Debt Shield's community outreach efforts. Through its Denim Fund, a charitable fund where employees donate in exchange for wearing denim jeans on Fridays, the award-winning debt settlement company provided donations to such organizations as the American Red Cross, World Vision, Hospice of Howard Country and the Charitable Projects Entertainment Fund. Debt Shield President John Gourdin says that such efforts are a natural extension of his company's mission.
"Helping people resolve their debt problems gives us a lot of satisfaction because we know we are making a real difference in people's lives," Gourdin explained. "So, it gives us even more pleasure to extend the way we help people by supporting good causes locally and around the world."
